Property Team – exterior lights and building security

The property team is taking the building security very seriously. One of the main topics of the March and April 2020 property team meetings was how to increase the building envelope security.

Gus replaced three worn out lighting systems including exterior motion detection lights. One was over the finance office 2nd floor steps. The second was outside the pastor’s office exterior door. The third was over the patio outside Steven’s Hall. All lights are now using brighter, longer lasting, LED technology. We have had people sleeping behind the calla lilies and stowing personal belongings in this planter, sleeping on the patio, and most recently on the stairs, just outside the finance office.

As stated in a previous blog post, our church does not have the facilities to accommodate overnight resident shelter. And, having people sleeping on the property overnight can cause strain with our property’s immediate neighbors. We do reach out to our community by offering food, clothing, and other donated belongings to those that are less fortunate.

Brighton had recently installed RING for the 2nd floor of the education building, and offered to use her knowledge to install a RING doorbell at the church office door, and a security camera at the pastor’s office. The difference between these 2 security measures is that, with RING, you are notified when someone “rings” the bell or activity passes near to the camera, and can see a video clip of what occurred.

Brighton and Gus installed the items and tested. All are now working. Our church is blessed with a property team that takes action and uses their experiences and skills to make our church building as safe as possible, at a time when covid19 health restrictions are causing less foot traffic, activity inside the buildings and possibly more vandalism than previously.
